WORKSHOPS

MNA sponsors several free or low-cost professional development opportunities at venues around the Minneapolis and St.Paul Metro Area. Workshops are focused on content and practice for both naturalist staff and volunteers on topics including natural/cultural history, citizen science, recreation, and outdoor skills.
Workshops are held three times during the year.

In order to provide the best experience possible for both participants and host sites, pre-registration is required for all workshops. Online registration will close prior to the workshop and a confirmation email will be sent to you. We apologize for the inconvenience but we will not be able to accommodate walk-ins or requests made after the registration deadline has passed. If you have any questions regarding upcoming workshops or registration please email the MNA Professional Development Workshop Coordinator.

Each fall and spring, millions of birds migrate via the Central/Mississippi corridor, one of the premier flyways of North America.  An average of 90,000 raptors and hundreds of thousands of other migratory birds are counted annually during the fall and spring counts conducted by Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory. This amazing natural event is spectacular to observe! A single day can easily yield thousands to tens of thousands in single species counts. Join us at Hawk Ridge for a practical investigation into who's flying today, how do we know who's who, and what are we learning from over 50 years of data about these birds who fly by twice annually?

Bring your raptor questions, curiosity, and we will learn from each other! After initial introductions and discussion, we will take a break and then weather permitting, offer continued observations of the flight at the overlook, or hike out to the ultimate viewing spot of the Ridge at Summit Ledges.

Wear walking shoes, bring water, snacks and layers for this amazing event at Hawk Ridge!
